What's the basic process?

Although every scenario is different there are a few basic steps that occur in all cases.

1) We discuss your needs
2) You send audio files
3) I send the finished product

It's that simple!

Why do I need a mix engineer?

If you have a toothache, do you go see a foot doctor? Of course not. While the role of a mix engineer and a recording engineer are equal in importance, they serve different functions. A recording engineers' main goal is to accurately capture a performance while obtaining quality signal levels to a recording device. However, a mix engineers' job is to compile all the elements that make up a project and showcase the performance. Make it bigger than life. This is my function. If you've ever asked yourself, "Why does my CD still sound like a demo?" or "How come my CD doesn't sound like the ones on the radio?", then we should talk. Many of these issues come down to having a proper mix engineer.

What determines which services I might need?

a) The condition of the existing material (Song, Recording, & Performance)
b) The result you want

I'm not at a "professional level" yet. Is there a benefit to working together?

Absolutely. The ultimate goal is always to improve your product to become "professional". In order to be taken seriously in the current industry your productions must be strong.

Should I wait until I'm done recording to contact you?

Not at all. In fact the sooner the better. Many of the adverse issues that affect a final product usually occur in the Pre-Production stage. Not everything can be "fixed in the mix" and they shouldn't be.

What additional services do I provide?

I can also be hired as a Producer. This could occur before a recording, during, and after the fact. Many times, solutions lie in the song structure, arrangement, and sonic elements. As a producer, I will analyze each of these areas to create the best possible product using what we have to work with. As with most options, they are relative to what your goal is for the final product. (For more info, click "Creative Services" on the home page)

What are my fees?

The financial cost will vary depending on the specific needs of your product (music mix, film mix, tv commercial, tv show, etc.). It is always possible that you already have a product that may benefit simply from mastering the final stereo mix. Again, each scenario is different. Rest assured, you will know all of your options before we begin.

I've recorded my song/s in Protools (or any other DAW)...Now What?

Typically, you will provide the actual sound files for each instrument track via FTP, CD, DVD, or an External Harddrive. I can accept .wav, .aiff, SDII and a host of other file formats. The important fact is anything is possible. No worries.

How is the finished product delivered?

Once a project is completed, the finished audio may be returned on a CD, DVD, and/or Firewire Hard Drive. How it is returned depends on the type of project it was, specific requests of the client, and how the source material was initially delivered. Any special needs can be discussed.

Do I store the final version of the project?

For a nominal fee, storage of Original Session Files will occur for a period of up to 1 year from project completion date.

"I'm happy with my productions already. I just want to learn more about recording, mixing, and the production process."

No Problem. I can custom tailor a training program for you depending on your desires. (For more info, click "Creative Services" on the home page)
